A proponent of positive psychology, he brings a sense of optimism to the therapeutic setting, without undermining the pain that is being experienced. These experiences led to an aspiration to share with the community some of the light that helped guide him along his journey. In 2015, Dr. Hsu shared that light in places as far as Kenya where he participated in a humanitarian mission addressing the effects of HIV/AIDS on mental health.

An avid snowboarder, Dr. Hsu volunteered countless hours to CHILL, a program that provides at-risk youth exposure to a positive environment while learning a new skill in a social setting to help increase one’s sense of self, self- confidence, and self-esteem.
